1985, the Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government decided to establish the Guangzhou Municipal Education Commission, with Comrade Wu Ziyan as the director and Comrade Guo Huanzhi as the deputy director. 1 1 On June 6th, the Education Commission held an inaugural meeting, attended by Vice Mayor Liu Nianzu. The meeting emphasized that the central task of the Education Commission is to implement the decisions of the municipal party committee and the municipal government on reforming the education system and developing education. 1998, 10 In March, the First Session of the Ninth National People's Congress passed a new institutional reform plan for the State Council, and the State Education Commission was renamed the Ministry of Education. As a result, in the following years, the provincial, city and county education committees were renamed as the Education Department/Education Bureau.
