What is Federation?
The first World Student Congress announced the establishment of the International Student Federation, referred to as the "International Student Federation". By the end of 1985, there were more than 130 member organizations in 109 countries and regions. Headquartered in Prague. The main goal put forward by the International Federation of Students is to "eliminate racial discrimination and social discrimination, oppose colonialism and imperialism, and strive for independence and world peace". At the end of 1986, a series of activities were held with the theme of "education-no privilege". The predecessor of the International Student Union was a student organization that resisted the Nazis during the Second World War. Established in 1964. At that time, it was the largest international student organization in the world. It has the consultative status of UNESCO and is also recognized by the socialist countries in Eastern Europe. However, in the late 1980s and most of the 1990s, the Federation struggled to lose contact with three-quarters of the joint groups in various countries. Nowadays, the movement against economic globalization and the arrival of the era of low-cost electronic communication have given the Organization a new life. At present, contact has been re-established with1150 student organizations from15 countries. Liz Carlyle, an executive from Canada, said that they had received thousands of emails from student organizations that had alienated the organization in the past. At the seminar on globalization held in Montreal, the International Student Union announced a protest to call on its members to make efforts to prevent the "commercialization" of education. September 13 was designated as the Global Student Public Education Action Day. On the same day, the World Trade Organization meeting was held in Mexico. This protest is also a continuation of student actions against the Iraq war.
