There are many unique or derived words in Cantonese. It contains nine tones and six tones, retains the characteristics of ancient Chinese, and has a complete series of characters, which can be completely expressed by Chinese characters (Cantonese characters). Besides Mandarin, China is the only Chinese language independently studied in foreign universities.

At present, Cantonese is the official language of Hong Kong and Macao, the fourth largest language in Australia, the third largest language in the United States and Canada, and the second largest language in New Zealand. Cantonese is the mother tongue of Guangfu people and an important carrier of Guangfu culture. Cantonese is written as "Canton" in English and "Yidong" in Japanese, which is generally called "Cantonese".
