China's education system can be divided into three parts: primary, secondary and higher education. Children aged five or six have to go to primary school, which lasts about six years (five years in some areas). After graduation, they receive six years of secondary education (junior high school and senior high school) before going to college.

Today, education in China is still teacher-centered. In class, the teacher orders the students to do everything, and the students' job is to obey the teacher. Compared with western students, China students ask fewer questions. It seems that passing exams with good grades in order to go to a good university is the only motivation for students in China, while westerners are encouraged to follow their own interests and ask more questions in their studies.
