One: A few days ago, a piece of news caught my attention. It was about the teacher of a primary school in Wuhan apologizing for suspending students. A teacher in Class 8, Grade 6, Beihu Primary School, Jianghan District, Wuhan City slapped several students with a ruler during class, and then the Education Bureau sent a working group to the school to investigate the matter. After the school investigation, the teacher was immediately suspended and issued an apology statement. After watching the news, I couldn't help being lost in thought. I think the reason why the Education Bureau attaches so much importance to this matter is because the parents of these students went to the Education Bureau to complain. I remember reading from the Education Bureau that teachers have certain disciplinary power. So what kind of punishment is appropriate for teachers?
Two: How should teachers be punished appropriately? My first thought about the news that the teacher hit the students' palms with a ruler is: didn't we all call it that when we were children? I believe that many adults have been punished by teachers for some things when they go to school, right? Like me, I was once beaten by the class teacher with a ruler because I regressed by four points. At that time, I was still the monitor, and I was often praised by the teacher, but rarely punished by the teacher, so I felt particularly profound. That day, I stood on the podium with my back to my classmates, but I could feel the curious and surprised eyes of the classmates below, which were projected behind me. The place where the teacher hit me, although it didn't hurt, was burning. Since then, I have studied very hard and my grades have risen rapidly. Although the result is good, I think it has left a certain shadow in my heart.
Then, can the teacher punish the students with a ruler? My answer is yes, but not in front of the whole class. Because I think the ultimate goal of the teacher is to make the students obey and let her study hard, so when the students make mistakes, the teacher can punish them appropriately. But such punishment should not be in front of the whole class, because it will hurt a student's self-esteem, and may even make the student rebellious, so I think it would be better if I called the office for education.
And I don't quite agree with what the parents of these students did in the news. What we want to oppose is inappropriate corporal punishment by teachers, especially those who use violence against students in the name of education. We should oppose such teachers. If every teacher is suspended for hitting a student with a ruler, then the teacher can only correct the child's bad practices through oral education. This will make the stubborn children's words less convincing and greatly reduce the effect of education.
