Should teachers punish students after all?
Punishment is necessary, otherwise how to manage children!

There are many similar old sayings, such as "the son doesn't teach, the father is guilty, the teacher is lax, and the teacher is lazy", and "strict teacher makes a good student", which all show that teachers play a vital role in the growth of children. However, in such an era when children are spoiled, teachers often dare not say "no" to their students. In addition, in recent years, school troubles have emerged in an endless stream, and teachers have "learned lessons" and dare not punish students any more. Over time, teachers in China only "teach" students and hardly touch "education".

There has been a great controversy about whether education needs punishment. However, through the questionnaire survey, we come to the conclusion that more than 95% teachers think that appropriate punishment is necessary.

In fact, as early as 2008, officials of the Ministry of Education made it clear that teachers' appropriate and proper punishment does not belong to corporal punishment of students, and teachers are not encouraged to blindly tolerate or even accommodate students. Criticism is as important as praise. Indiscriminate praise will make students turn a blind eye to their own shortcomings. Excessive one-sided appreciation, respect and people-oriented education have led to the protection of children's deformities by society, schools and families. As an educational art, educational punishment is a great love.

Draw a clear line between "punishment" and "corporal punishment"

The reality now is that there is no clear boundary between "punishment" and "corporal punishment", and the relevant departments have not yet issued clear rules. In this case, teachers think that "necessary and appropriate punishment" is likely to be regarded as "corporal punishment" by parents and students, which will lead to contradictions between teachers and students and even between home and school.

Where is the teacher's punishment?

At present, students make mistakes, teachers don't criticize them, and schools almost take the attitude of "turning a blind eye" and don't make a big deal out of things; Most of the school troubles ended in the teachers' final compromise, and most of the parents ended in vain. Where is our disciplinary power?

Teachers are afraid to enforce discipline for the following reasons:

1, after the school accident, the teacher became "smart";

2. Affected by the big environment, most teachers don't want to get involved in muddy water, so everything will be fine if they do their own lessons well;

3. Students have psychological problems. Nowadays, children are spoiled, and under the pressure of parents' ardent expectations and exam-oriented education, they show some unhealthy phenomena such as psychological fragility and emotional anxiety. How dare the teacher punish such a child?

Education needs a standardized discipline system.

Is it abuse or punishment? First of all, we should make clear the boundaries between education and punishment. In the stage of compulsory education, some primary and secondary school teachers may punish students who are naughty and violate discipline in various forms, such as standing up, copying homework and beating their bodies. Some behaviors constitute abuse and infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of students. However, what is corporal punishment and what acts constitute corporal punishment in disguised form are not clearly stipulated in the law.

It is precisely because the boundary between education punishment and abuse is unclear in law, but in reality, influenced by factors such as teachers' quality and psychological status, teachers' disciplinary behavior frequently crosses the line and becomes abuse, causing physical and mental harm to children. Education without punishment is incomplete education. It is necessary to protect teachers' right to education and respect children's rights and interests. According to the different stages of education and the objective conditions of students' age and gender, the principles, methods, standards and boundaries of educational punishment should be clarified. On the one hand, it is conducive to maintaining order in the school, on the other hand, it can also control some teachers' happy, careless hands.

In addition, schools should formulate specific educational discipline rules according to students' age, gender and physical and mental conditions. Schools should clearly tell parents and students which behaviors may be punished. Teachers should follow proper procedures, such as telling students the reasons and allowing them to defend themselves, and disciplinary action should not humiliate students excessively. Only by perfecting laws and systems, listing clear warning lines, and clarifying what behaviors can be implemented, what behaviors can't be implemented, and how to implement them, can education have a direction and behavioral standards.

Punishment must have a "degree"

Punishment is a good medicine for the growth of life, which can make people awake and stop on the wrong road. Education without punishment is incomplete education. For teachers, it is mainly to grasp the scale and method of punishment, and make it clear that the purpose of punishment is to make students grow up healthily, not to vent their personal anger. Punishment should be based on conscience, trust and the purpose of promoting students' development, so as to give students a happy life.

First of all, punishment should pay attention to "scale". As a means of education, the object of punishment is minors. Therefore, when carrying out disciplinary education, we must pay attention to the scale to avoid "excessive punishment" due to impulse, resulting in irreparable losses. How to grasp the punishment scale? We can learn from some effective foreign experience.

Secondly, the punishment should have a "temperature". Suhomlinski said that without love, there would be no education. Punishment, as one of many educational means, must be based on love in order to truly achieve the ultimate educational goal. Really effective disciplinary education should not only have strict

"Scale" needs a suitable "temperature". A single "physical punishment" not only rudely brings physical pain to the punished, but also probably sows the seeds of hatred in their hearts, which undoubtedly runs counter to our original educational intention. Therefore, teachers must pay attention to the following points when disciplining students: first, they must strictly follow the relevant regulations and do not exceed the standard; Second, after the punishment, we must do a good job of caring and communicating, so that students can feel the teacher's good intentions as much as possible. That is to say, in disciplinary education, students should not only understand the reasons for being disciplined, but also understand the fundamental purpose of teacher disciplinary education, and strive to maximize the educational effect of disciplinary education.

In addition, punishment must set a "limit". Compared with other educational means, disciplinary education is actually an "unconventional" method. As an "unconventional" means of education, its use should naturally be restricted. From the perspective of applicable objects, it is necessary to conduct certain screening, that is to say, not every student can accept punishment as an educational means. So generally speaking, teachers should try not to use disciplinary measures unless they have to, and occasionally it will be better.
