Shanghai Foreign Language Audio and Video Publishing House was established in April, 1983. It is the first professional foreign language audio-visual electronic publishing unit in China, which is headed by the Ministry of Education and sponsored by Shanghai International Studies University. In March 2003, Shanghai Foreign Language Audio-visual Publishing House became the first audio-visual publishing unit in China to pass the ISO 900 1-2000 quality management system certification.
