Baotou teachers college's primary education major is good. Primary education major is the first major in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to train primary education teachers at undergraduate level, which has a certain position and influence among similar majors in China. This major implements the training mode of "comprehensive training, developing expertise, facing the foundation and practicing in the whole process", combining arts and sciences, and currently has Chinese, mathematics and English directions. Courses include advanced mathematics, modern and contemporary literature, ancient literature, children's literature, curriculum and teaching theory, natural science foundation, environmental education and teacher skills. Through continuous exploration, the teaching mode of "1+3", the guiding mechanism of "double tutorial system", the vocational skill training mode of "qualification plus major" and the outstanding professional characteristics of art education have been formed.

There are 22 full-time teachers in primary education, including associate professors 17 and 9 masters. In recent years, teachers have published more than 100 papers in academic journals such as national core journals, and more than 30 projects have been completed and under research, showing a good development trend in academic level, education and scientific research, and the construction of teaching staff.

In 2007 and 2008, 22 undergraduate graduates were admitted to the graduate school.
