Universities are divided into three levels: preparatory courses, undergraduate courses and junior colleges. Among them, the preparatory course is 3 years and the undergraduate course is 3-4 years. The current academic system of ordinary colleges and universities in China was basically established shortly after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
