2001August 3 1 day, the 23rd meeting of the Ninth NPC Standing Committee in People's Republic of China (PRC) adopted the Decision of the NPC Standing Committee on Establishing a National Defense Education Day. According to the National Defense Education Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), the third Saturday in September is National Defense Education Day every year. The National Defense Education Day was jointly organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, local government departments at all levels and military organs, with unified arrangements and wide participation from all walks of life.

The purpose of this important anniversary is to popularize national defense education, carry forward the spirit of patriotism, and urge all citizens to enhance their national defense concepts, consciously fulfill their national defense obligations, support, care for and participate in national defense construction, and master the necessary national defense knowledge and military skills.
