Gu Mingyuan, male, born in June 1929, Jiangyin, Jiangsu, party member, CPC. For more than 50 years, he has been engaged in teaching, scientific research and management in the education front and has become a well-known educator and scholar at home and abroad. He used to be vice president of Beijing Normal University, dean of graduate school, dean of school of education management, head of education discipline of the State Council discipline evaluation group, and one of the two presidents of the World Federation of Comparative Education. At present, he is honorary president of the School of Education Management of Beijing Normal University, professor of the Institute of International and Comparative Education, doctoral supervisor, president of the China Education Association, and deputy director of the Social Science Committee of the Ministry of Education. 199 1 was awarded the title of national excellent teacher by the government, and was awarded the title of national excellent teacher in the same year. 1997 was awarded the title of "* * * Member Model" by Beijing Normal University. 1998, won the first prize of Ceng Xianzi Education Fund. 1999, awarded the highest honorary title of "People's Teacher" in Beijing.

The Dictionary of Education, edited by Gu Mingyuan and published by Shanghai Education Press 1990- 1992, has a total of 8 million words (the volume was updated in 1998), and strives to include all the achievements of human educational activities practice and theory for thousands of years, "gathering new achievements in educational research and integrating ancient and modern China and foreign countries."
