The Hanlin Academy was founded in the Tang Dynasty. At first, it was an organization for people with artistic ability. Since Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, there are two kinds of Hanlin: one is Hanlin Bachelor, who works in Hanlin Bachelor's College; One is dedicated by Hanlin, who works in Hanlin Academy. The Hanlin bachelor is responsible for drafting the imperial edict, and the Hanlin sacrifice has almost no real power. After the late Tang Dynasty, the Imperial Academy evolved into an important institution specialized in drafting the secret imperial edict system, which was known as the "private emperor". Those who hold or have held positions in the academy are called "Hanlin officials". After the Song Dynasty, Hanlin officials became official posts, in line with the imperial examinations. After the Ming Dynasty, the Imperial Academy became a place to cultivate talents and store hopes. Bachelor Hanlin is responsible for compiling books and writing history, drafting imperial edicts, serving as imperial examiners for members of the royal family, and so on. Hanlin's position was noble, and the cabinet records at that time were the de facto prime ministers.
? Regardless of their political status, the Hanlin scholars have always been the literati group with the highest social status in the past dynasties, which concentrated the elite of intellectuals at that time and had a superior social status. Du Fu and Zhang Jiuling in the Tang Dynasty, Su Shi, Ouyang Xiu, Wang Anshi and Sima Guang in the Song Dynasty, Song Lian, Fang Xiaoru and Zhang in the Ming Dynasty, Zeng Guofan and Li Hongzhang in the Qing Dynasty were all members of the Hanlin people.
It is a great honor to be elected to the Hanlin Academy, known as the "Canon Hanlin". Bachelor Hanlin is not only committed to the inheritance of cultural and academic undertakings, but also actively participates in the discussion of state affairs. Hanlin system and imperial examination system are the basic framework of feudal civil service system in China. From imperial examination to Hanlin, from Hanlin to courtiers, it is the life ideal of literati in the imperial examination era and the expression of Confucianism's "helping the poor and achieving the best"
