2001June 13, the Ministry of Education issued the Notice of the Ministry of Education on Implementing the Counterpart Support Plan for Colleges and Universities in the Western Region, confirming for the first time that Peking University has established the counterpart support relationship with Shihezi University, Tsinghua University University and Qinghai University 13. The aided universities come from western provinces 12 and Xinjiang production and construction corps 1 institute, and the supporting universities are all famous universities under the Ministry.
Today, the list of "twinning assistance" has been extended for a long time, not only to 38 aided universities, but also to all universities in Tibet and all undergraduate universities in Xinjiang, and to 64 supported universities.
