The School of Politics and Administration developed from the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Section established by 1953 and the Department of Political Education established by 1960 (1995 was renamed the Department of Political Economy, and 1999 was renamed the School of Economic Politics and Law). In 2002, the School of Economics and Law was divided into the School of Politics and Public Administration, the School of Economics and Management and the School of Law. The college began to recruit four-year undergraduate students in 1964 and graduate students in 1984. At present, the college has two doctoral programs, the basic principles of Marxism and ideological and political education, and the post-doctoral mobile station of Marxist theory 1. General undergraduate education has four majors: ideological and political education, administrative management, human resource management and urban management. Among them, ideological and political education is a national specialty and a high-quality specialty in Guangxi. In postgraduate education, there are two first-class disciplines: Marxist theory and political science. There are basic principles of Marxism, ideological and political education, China Marxism, the history of Marxist development, foreign Marxism, the study of basic problems in modern China, the history of the Communist Party of China, diplomacy, political science theory, Chinese political system, scientific society and internationalist movement, international politics, international relations, Marxist philosophy, philosophy of science and technology, ethics, foreign philosophy, political economy, administrative management, curriculum and teaching theory (ideological and political education) and so on. The major of ideological and political education has become the major of national characteristic construction, and the discipline of Marxist theory is the traditional dominant discipline of Guangxi Normal University and the key discipline of Guangxi Autonomous Region. In 2002, the major of administrative management began to recruit undergraduates, and in 2007, it began to recruit and train postgraduates. As one of the three master's degrees in administration in Guangxi universities, the discipline of administration plays an important role in leading the development and innovation of administrative management in Guangxi, and has made important achievements in the study of government coordination and cooperation mechanism in the process of regional economic integration around Beibu Gulf, and the analysis of interest conflict mechanism and its solution mechanism in the reform of administrative examination and approval system in the transitional period.
In the past ten years, our school ranked first in the teaching evaluation of ideological and political theory courses in Guangxi universities, and was awarded the honorary title of "Excellent Teaching Unit of Ideological and Political Theory Courses in Guangxi Universities in 2005-2006" in the latest evaluation. The college undertakes the training of college counselors. In June 2006, the Education Department of the Autonomous Region established the "Guangxi College Counselor Training and Research Base" in our school.
