Zhu Houzong, Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, was playful and didn't like reading when he was a child.

His father, Wang Xing, was very worried, so he was locked in his study and fined for copying this tutor's couplet. At the same time, it is stipulated that he should copy 100 times a day, otherwise he will be flogged if he doesn't finish writing.

Zhu Houzong copied 100 days, finally realized his father's painstaking efforts, ran to his father and knelt down to confess his sins. From then on, he studied hard and hung this couplet in his study as his motto.

According to legend, in the Qing Dynasty, a Shandong man named Pan went to a county magistrate in the south of the Yangtze River. At the beginning of taking office, my father wrote this couplet as a gift.

1924, when Feng Yuxiang sent his son to study abroad, he gave him this couplet.
