The University of Southern California, also translated as USC, is a private research university on the west coast of the United States, located in Los Angeles. Founded by the Board of Supervisors on 1880, it is a member of association of american universities and Pacific Rim University Alliance.

Southern California Institute of Technology has two national engineering research centers established by the National Science Foundation (NSF)-Microelectronics Biosystems Center (BMES) and Integrated Multimedia Systems Center (IMSC). Together with Lockheed Martin, it has established a world-class quantum computing center, which was selected by the US Department of Homeland Security as the first center of excellence for homeland security.
