1998, Datong Hunyuan Normal School changed from six-track system to eight-track system. 1999, with the reform of the education system, the school began to expand enrollment, which disrupted the normal school-running system, expanded the school scale, and improved the quality and efficiency of running schools. In 2002, the school began to be restructured, and the 3+2 primary education junior college class was piloted and transferred to the junior college level. At the same time, it is affiliated to Yanbei Normal University and renamed as Hunyuan Branch of Yanbei Normal University. In 2003, it began to recruit five-year full-time junior high school students and officially became a normal school to train primary school teachers with junior high school education. In 2006, with the change of Yanbei Normal University to Shanxi Datong University, the school was renamed as "Hunyuan Normal Branch of Shanxi Datong University" and began to recruit full-time junior college students with three-year system in senior high school, making this school a junior college-level normal school with three-five academic systems.
