Mingde College has 292 professors and 22 teachers. For students with Hong Kong or foreign background, the teacher-student ratio is 1: 14. The name of Mingde College is "Mingde", which is taken from the motto of "Mingde Wu Ge" of HKU. The English name "Centennial" shows that the establishment of Mingde College coincides with the centenary of the Hong Kong University, which is used to express the meaning of innovation milestone in the new century.

The newly established Mingde College of the University of Hong Kong has been accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAA) in accordance with the Post-secondary Colleges Ordinance (Chapter 320), and is officially registered as an accredited post-secondary college, offering full-time self-financing degree courses and awarding bachelor's degrees.
