What are the characteristics of the educational system in the Tang Dynasty?
In the Tang Dynasty, different types of schools, such as Guo Zi School, imperial academy School, Four Schools, Law School, Calligraphy School and Arithmetic School, were called "Six Schools". The general situation of the study content is: studying Confucian classics, imperial academy and four subjects in Guo Zi, studying Tang law in law, learning calligraphy, learning arithmetic and books and classics.

In 662, when Tang Gaozong was in power, imperial academy was established in Luoyang, the eastern capital, and was called the "two prisons" together with Chang 'an imperial academy.

Under the unified leadership and management of imperial academy, with the improvement of the administrative system of official schools in the Tang Dynasty, its teaching management gradually matured and formed a relatively perfect teaching management.

There were doctors, teaching assistants and direct lecturers in the Tang Dynasty, all of whom were famous officials of the imperial court. Doctoral students are taught by classics or majors, directly assisted by teaching assistants and supervised by turns. Once a doctor starts a course, he may not be transferred or hold other positions before completing a course.

There were 6 doctors, 6 teaching assistants and 500 students in imperial academy in Tang Dynasty. There are also places in other official schools in the imperial court, such as 7 doctors, 5 teaching assistants, 5 lecturers and 300 students. These are all contained in the Six Codes and Laws of the Tang Dynasty and must be strictly observed. The number of students enrolled in the school each year is determined according to the number of students who graduated from the school that year, so as to keep the number of places unchanged and the teaching order relatively stable.

Imperial academy established the instructor examination system in Tang Dynasty. Both doctors and teaching assistants take the number of hours taught in that year as the evaluation standard, and also pay attention to the assessment of the professional level, teaching effect and work attitude of the teaching teachers. Teaching assistants with good grades during their term of office can be promoted to doctors, and doctors can also be promoted to positions with good teaching during their term of office.

Imperial academy's promotion in Tang Dynasty must be checked by the Ministry of Rites, and his teaching attitude, professional level and teaching effect should be comprehensively investigated to decide his advance and retreat. This kind of promotion examination for instructors is regular and institutionalized. There is a quiz every year and a big exam every three to five years. The state establishes examination institutions to preside over examinations. The same is true of other imperial official schools.
