During his college years, Darwin's theory of evolution caught his attention and became interested in philosophical issues. He graduated with honors. Then I taught in rural primary and secondary schools for two years. 1In the autumn of 882, Dewey entered Johns Hopkins University to study education and philosophy. 1884 was awarded a doctorate in philosophy. Since then, Dewey has taught at the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota. The following year, Dewey resigned from the University of Chicago and went to teach at Columbia University in new york until he retired in 1930. After retirement, he was an honorary professor at Columbia University until 1939. During my teaching at Columbia University, I came to China to give lectures on 19 19, which lasted for two years and had a great influence on the education sector in China. On June 1952, Dewey died of pneumonia in new york.
The Chicago 10 period is a crucial period for Dewey's educational thought to form and develop. After arriving at Columbia University, the rapid development of American progressive education movement and its peak momentum further promoted the development and maturity of his thought. Dewey was diligent in writing all his life and insisted on writing until his death, so he wrote a lot all his life. There are 8 15 papers and 44 monographs (including pedagogy works 1 1). Dewey's representative works in pedagogy are: My Education Credo (1897), School and Society (1899), Children and Curriculum (1902) and How We Think (19/kloc-). Democracy and education (19 16), experience and education (1938), among which democracy and education are Dewey's most influential educational works.
