Let's get down to business.
I put Acheng's novels in the first place, because in my mind, Acheng is the best short story among contemporary writers.
I first saw Acheng's novel The Three Kings in the 1980s. That is, when Acheng's novel was first published. Before that, I liked the article written by Zhong Dianfei, Acheng's father and film critic. I think he is a great critic. His articles are gentle, and he never talks big or empty words. Later, I heard that the old artist suffered during the Cultural Revolution and died. Too bad it's straight.
Acheng, whose real name is Zhong Acheng, 1949, was born in Beijing. After the Cultural Revolution, he went to the countryside, just like the fate of Shi Tiesheng's generation of writers. It seems that Acheng has gone to Yunnan. Then I went back to the city and didn't know what to do. I wrote a novel anyway. In one hand, there are three kings, the son king, the chess king and the tree king. Alarm the literary world. It was many years before I got in touch with Acheng. Acheng told me that he only wrote a few novels and never wrote again. It adds up to just over fifty thousand words. After Acheng became famous for writing novels, he went to America and lived in Los Angeles. After coming back for a few years, I probably feel that staying in the United States is boring. But this is good. You want me to stay in America all my life, you might as well put me in solitary confinement. This is not a question of good or bad life, but a question of cultural estrangement. No matter how bad China is, I still like it.
I will appreciate several novels by Acheng and write some thoughts on king of the children first.
The story of king of the children is simple and clear. It is about an educated youth who went to the countryside and was called to a rural school as a teacher. That's all, but what Acheng wrote is not that simple.
Where should I start writing about educated youth as a teacher in rural primary schools? Acheng's choice began when the secretary of his labor production team called him. Don't underestimate the starting point, there are many stresses in it.
The secretary threw him a cigarette first, and I squatted on the ground to listen to the secretary. The secretary told him that he would be transferred to a teacher. "I" thought that the secretary was lecturing him on this matter and didn't dare to promise. The secretary recognized the truth and said it was this, really. "I" was just sudden. Later, the secretary said to him, "I can't send you to work." I'll send you to school to teach and report tomorrow. When you arrive at school, you should behave well and don't fail. " You know my third child, you have a hard time studying. You can help him at school. Noisy, noisy. If you're not afraid, tell me and I'll call. "Just these words, the role relationship between the secretary and Acheng is fixed. Very accurate. On the one hand, the secretary should make a gesture of small leadership, but he doesn't want to live up to the above esteem, so he should entrust a few words. It's nothing when it comes to your own children. Using the verb "hit" shows closeness and trust, which is very vivid. Then the author wrote the reaction of two characters, my roommate Lao Hei and the cook Rydy. It's all vivid. The novel uses few words to pave the way for all the atmosphere before king of the children came to power.
Acheng's novels are good at starting with small things and little people, and don't talk about conceptual language. It's all knickknacks, tricks, the confusion of a few words and the ignorance of the depth of a few words, thus writing a picture of all beings of the working people and the lower classes.
I want to talk about this breakthrough point of Acheng's novels, that is, he started writing when the secretary called him, instead of writing directly to the school platform. This entry point is very subtle. On the one hand, it paves the way for "my living and working environment". On the other hand, it also brings out the atmosphere of "I am about to start a new life" through the sketches of three characters: Secretary, Lao Hei and Lai Di.
Looking down, "I" stood on the podium, but I don't know how to teach my children, because after all, I went to junior high school for several years. Don't say that reading and teaching are completely different. Even that little knowledge is not enough for lectures. Some of the children in class dare to talk, just say that there is no teacher in class like you. Are you here to make a living? This boy Wang Fu is really bold. However, "I" was not angry, but asked, what should I do? Why don't you try? Wang Fu quickly waved. The next step is to teach children to read. All the children ran to the podium and wrote unknown words on the blackboard, while "I" watched because I couldn't teach. Only in this way can I be more like a teacher. Acheng's novels always like to show those little people who are passive to Nuo Nuo and Nuo Nuo, which is also related to the Cultural Revolution and its influence on his family. Of course, it is more related to Acheng's own personality.
It is great that Acheng paid so much attention to the importance of truth in his novels at that time. Different from many contemporary works, Acheng's novels are filled with a humble and shrinking atmosphere. As long as it is written for the lower classes, he is full of energy, and every stroke is so profound and true. Wang Zengqi later admired Acheng's taste in novels and said that he would never write. Mr. Wang's words are not modesty, but facts.
In fact, it was not only Mr. Wang who couldn't write a novel like Ah Cheng. At that time, so many writers in China couldn't write such a novel. When I was older, I especially liked to look at old photos, which contained indelible truths. Reading Acheng's novels gives you the feeling of old photos. I admire the creation of this big brother. No matter how many years have passed, as long as you can read such a novel, it can immediately call you back to that era that disappeared without a trace.
Wang Dewei, a professor at Columbia University and Harvard University in the United States, believes that Acheng's novels are very folk and emphasize the vulgarity and leisure of life. The novel is still not out of the framework of subtle meaning. However, compared with his works in the late Cultural Revolution, he has gone too far. In my opinion, the focus of Acheng's novels is not simply criticizing history and settling old scores, but seeing the freedom of folk life. Compared with these comfortable folk lives, the intervention of the Cultural Revolution and its bad consequences are as absurd as farce. Acheng cleaned up the fallacies and heresies of this era without leaving a word. What is extraordinary about Acheng is that he has restored countless more absurd lives and ordinary human nature with his own words in such a living situation.
2。 The first time I saw Acheng was in the third year of high school. I went to the bookstore to buy some reference materials and took Chess King off a shelf. Bookstores are small, mainly reference books and teaching AIDS. It was the weekend, and the shop was crowded with students in white school uniforms. It was noisy and sweaty. If you want to borrow books, you should test not only your physical strength, but also your patience. I rented a book and took it to the classroom to read. I was fascinated by the whole evening study. I remember the last part of the wheel war attracted me. My favorite girl with long hair sent me a message, but she just replied hastily. It is estimated that this should be one of the small reasons.
Acheng's writing style is fascinating. Although Chess King still has some students' accents, its ability to control the big scenes and spirituality in the combination of words have been shown little by little, and later prose collections are even more incisive. He jumped out of the scars and reflections on his writing in those years, brought out the characters through Chess Manual from a completely different perspective, and wrote Wang Yisheng, a strange man. It seems like a simple story of a strange man, but Wang Yisheng's chess way permeates Acheng's world view: Taoism does nothing.
It's been three years since I watched Acheng again, and this time I watched king of the children, a series of "Three Kings". Because of my first contact with the characters in Acheng, I now read it very cordially, as if I were an old friend reunited after a long separation. The moment I finished reading king of the children, my eyes were moist. My old friend really hasn't changed at all, and he is still so calm when telling stories. Ancient meaning, Zen state, fairy spirit, accompanied by faint smoke, curled up from the blast furnace of words. In a trance, I even thought that Acheng might be a fairy. The depth of writing skills is really rare.
The story of king of the children is as clean and simple as his words. It tells a story about education. The characters in it are poor and boring, teaching, working, watching movies, arranging music, talking nonsense and living a quiet life. Most of the stories in the novel revolve around a rare Xinhua Dictionary at that time. First, it was a deal for me and the cook to come to her, then it became a bet between me and student Wang Fu, and finally it was given to Wang Fu as a spiritual sustenance. The men and women in the mountain village in king of the children are so simple and ignorant, and their curiosity about knowledge opened a glimmer of life in the desperate situation of the Cultural Revolution.
The advantages of this novel are twofold.
The first is the text. The simplicity and complexity of The King of Children are amazing. I read more than 20,000-word novellas word for word, but I couldn't find any nonsense. In neat short sentences, verbs play their full role, while countless adjectives and idioms are almost invisible. Look at the opening paragraph:
"1976, I have been working in the production team for seven years. Cutting dams, burning wasteland, digging holes, picking seedlings, hoeing belts, turning the land, growing grain, feeding pigs, stripping grass and mowing grass have all been done, but they are all weak and cannot be done first. I am still very calm in my heart and feel that I am self-reliant after all. "
In three short sentences and seventy words, fourteen commas, thirteen verbs and ten verb phrases are used, and no adjectives are used. Such cleanliness is like lean meat without any shame, which makes people look greedy. But it's easier said than done. A good writer, like a good butcher, can wield a pen like a knife, pick the tendon and break the pulse, and close his eyes without distractions. After a few cuts, meat is meat, skin is skin, bone is bone, and pig hair is pig hair.
Acheng is the best word butcher I have ever seen. He is sophisticated, lively and incredibly calm, comparable to a high-quality professional killer.
Followed by the story. Acheng's writing is like opium, which can make you addicted slowly. When you are immersed in it, you can even feel the author sitting opposite you. He smokes like a gossip and tells you stories like a story king. His tone is calm and full of aftertaste. When you are fascinated, he will hit you on the head with a pipe and then laugh at your embarrassment. But you will also feel that the tube is really like a Zen master's staff, and your wooden fish-like head will be connected to a point.
Acheng's story may not be clever, but his way of telling stories is unique. He is knowledgeable, extraordinary in character and mature in temperament. In the story frame with little ups and downs, Acheng tries to write in detail, revealing and sublimating the mysterious philosophical implication and lofty cultural meditation in ordinary life. In the narrative of the story, he pays attention with simple realistic brushwork, acts with emotion and condenses with spirit. The charm beyond the story is more the story itself, which is one of the characteristics of the master.
The story of king of the children is not tortuous, everything is so logical and there is no suspense. But Acheng has his own way. Most of his novels are based on the life of educated youth, which he is familiar with, but they are different from previous educated youth novels. He inadvertently expressed the unfortunate experience and tragic fate of the characters. Although the life of educated youth in his works is hard and lacking in material resources, there is no lack of interest and humor, and some even make people yearn for it. For example, the writing and composition in king of the children are full of vitality and happiness. Every character in Acheng's works has an independent personality and life. Most of them are ordinary in appearance, but detached in heart. As a representative of root-seeking literature, Acheng should not only look for the roots of traditional literature, but also look for the roots of morality, character and spirit.
In a word, Acheng is a storyteller, and he is a king of the children himself. He is sophisticated and low-key, alert and wise, and all readers instantly become good children who listen to his stories.
Unfortunately, Acheng is not a prolific writer. At first, he joked that he might write five more king series novels and put them together with the three king series novels, but the wish of "The Story of the Tortoise" failed to come true. Feng Tang analysis, this is because his writing is too sophisticated and restrained, as if the milk is too strong, and the output is seriously limited. I think this view is quite convincing. Of course, Acheng is too smart to see through anything, and naturally he loses his passion for expressing many things, so he doesn't want to write. Perhaps this is one of the reasons for closing the pen.
Who cares? Since it is a myth, why not tell it again? It is wise to stop at the highest point and disappear into the depths, which will at least attract the memory and tracking of countless fans. One day, this mysterious "king of the children" will reappear in the Jianghu with more superb skills. I wonder how much commotion it will cause.
3. Acheng looks at the mountain village from a quiet perspective and lives his educated youth life with a calm mind.
Educated youth, the wronged generation, can only groan silently for the sigh of fate. And "king of the children" slowly shouted out the moans of educated youth.
"Child King" is the title of teacher, which makes people directly understand the concept of teacher in that era.
What impressed me most after reading king of the children was not its story complex, nor its local flavor, but my indifferent attitude towards life and life. There is a kind of "I" view towards the "I" in education, unlike Wang, who became speechless for life (of course, Wang is a good father, which is beyond reproach). Even if I go back to the past, there is nothing to be afraid of. Wang Fu is not just a circle of the sun in foggy days. He is a little confused, but he is always hope.
