Hubei Institute of Science and Technology is an ordinary undergraduate college in Hubei Province, an "excellent" university evaluated by the Ministry of Education, a national 100 demonstration universities integrating production and education, the first batch of pilot universities for excellent doctoral education and training programs in China, and a pilot university for transformation and development in Hubei Province. The school is located in Xianning City, Hubei Province, and has two campuses: Wenquan and Xian 'an.

The history of running a school can be traced back to Puyin Simple Normal School founded by 1937 and Xianning Branch of Hubei Medical College founded by 1965. After inheritance and evolution, Xianning Medical College and Xianning Normal College merged to form Xianning College in 2002, and 20 12 was renamed Hubei Institute of Science and Technology.
