Why do you want to study law in America?
High application threshold

In the eyes of Americans, legal education is a very serious matter, so the application threshold is relatively high, but employment is more secure. There is no law major in American undergraduate education, but only pre-law education, which is specially offered for students who are interested in studying law, so that they can lay a good foundation in advance.

American legal development attaches importance to legal practitioners.

Relatively speaking, for students who want to study science, there are many majors to choose from in the United States, but there are fewer liberal arts majors. Common majors are media, psychology, education, business, law and so on. There are many science majors to choose from, such as mathematics, physics, statistics, economics, finance, accounting, engineering, calculus, actuarial science, computer science and so on. The project is subdivided into mechanical, electronic, electrical, aviation and other professional directions. Law is the major chosen by liberal arts students, while the United States is the most developed country in law, and attaches more importance to legal practitioners.

LLM: Special Degree for International Students

Among the law degrees, the doctor of law is the highest degree. JD education lasts for three years, and the legal knowledge gained is very comprehensive, which is a necessary condition for engaging in legal affairs. Without a doctorate in law, you can't practice law. In the United States, it can be divided into three different law degrees, namely, doctor of law, master of law and JSD.

LLM, a one-year LLM program, is the most familiar one for international students in China, which is essentially different from the other two degrees. LLM is specially designed for international students. LLM degree is for those who want to do legal research. Generally speaking, the study time is short, generally 1 year, that is 10 months. Although it is 65,438+00 months, the total cost is around 400,000, which is not cheap at all. After all, after studying for a year, a lot of knowledge can't be understood systematically. At present, the gold content of LLM degree is not high, but it is only for international students to get a degree in a short time. That is to say, it is not easy to get a job in the United States, and basically you can't find a job as a lawyer. You can still find a corresponding job after returning home.

Students with LLM and JD degrees in the United States have similar fees, but the application requirements are different. Although the application for law major does not require work experience, the school usually refers to the GPA scores and LSAT scores of students. The minimum requirement for LSAT score in law school is 150. In the top ten schools, the LSAT score is at least 165.
