Capital Medical University, founded in 1960, is a key institution of higher learning in Beijing, a pilot institution of "excellent doctor education and training program", a famous urologist and academician of the two academies, with Professor Wu Jieping, former vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), as the first president and lifelong honorary president.

As of March 20 14, the school has 9770 full-time students, including 274 graduate students, 3009 undergraduates, 2077 vocational college students, 409 international students and 455 adult students. The school and affiliated hospitals have a total construction area of 2.24 million square meters, total fixed assets of 1, 60 1 100 million yuan, total teaching and research instruments and equipment of 2.8 billion yuan, library collection of 1, 267,000 books and beds of 1 655.

The headquarters of Capital Medical University consists of Basic Medical College, School of Public Health and Family Medicine, School of Chemical Biology and Pharmacy, School of Biomedical Engineering, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Health Management and Education, School of Nursing, Yanjing Medical College, School of Continuing Education and International College. The school has 14 clinical medical college (of which 13 clinical medical college is an affiliated hospital).

School history:

Capital Medical University, formerly known as Beijing Second Medical College, was founded in1September, 960 12.

1985 changed its name to Capital Medical College on August 22nd.

On August 27th 1986, the first doctor was identified as a municipal key institution.

1February 5, 994, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Capital Medical University.

2001Feb 12 Peking Union Medical College College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing Medical College and Beijing Staff Medical College merged into Capital Medical University.
