According to official website of Nanjing Xuanwu Open University, Nanjing Xuanwu Open University is a new type of institution of higher learning organized by the Xuanwu District People's Government of Nanjing. Since its establishment, it has trained tens of thousands of undergraduate and junior college graduates for various industries, providing strong support for regional economic and social development and learning Xuanwu construction.

In recent years, the school has vigorously carried out community education with the goal of "leading the city, leading the province and striving for the best in the country" and achieved fruitful results. In 2022, the "Post-80s Parent School" won the distinctive brand of community education of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and the school was established as the experimental site of the UNESCO Urban Community Learning Center (CLC) project.
