Founded in April 2003, Yangtze University is the largest comprehensive university in Hubei Province with complete disciplines. It is one of the four high-level universities selected by the national "Education Powerful Country Project" and "National First-class University" in Hubei Province, and has been selected into the education and training plan of outstanding engineers and outstanding agricultural and forestry talents of the Ministry of Education.
The school has six national scientific research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Petroleum and Petrochemical Pollutant Control and Treatment, the National Engineering Laboratory of Oil and Gas Drilling Technology, the National Research and Development Center of Heavy Oil Exploitation, and the National Engineering Laboratory of Exploration and Development of Low Permeability Oil and Gas Fields, as well as two national dual-innovation education platforms, including the National Demonstration University for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform.
The school has three post-doctoral research stations, three first-class discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 38 first-class discipline master degree authorization points, 19 professional master degree authorization categories, and four "14 th Five-Year Plan" Hubei province advantageous and characteristic discipline groups.

The school has successively undertaken 2,346 scientific research projects at all levels, including the National Natural Science Foundation Project 135, the National Social Science Foundation Project 23, and the Humanities and Social Sciences Project of the Ministry of Education 23, making breakthroughs in outstanding youth science fund projects and key projects. Won 26 national and provincial excellent teaching achievement awards. Published 78 academic monographs and 3,589 high-level papers.
The school has established substantive cooperative relations with more than 80 colleges and universities in the United States, Britain, Ireland, South Korea, Japan, Russia, Australia, Czech Republic and other countries, and carried out exchanges and cooperation such as student exchange, scholar exchange visits and joint scientific research. The school cooperated with Shannon University of Technology in Ireland to organize the undergraduate education program of civil engineering.
The school has 6 national specialty, 1 1 Hubei brand specialty, 25 national first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites, 24 provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites, 9 specialty selected into Hubei strategic emerging (pillar) industry talent training plan, and 7 national, provincial and ministerial specialty comprehensive reform pilot specialty.
