Moved to Hong Kong to help compile the encyclopedia of Master Taixu. Later, he came to Taiwan Province to write, preach Buddhism, learn Japanese and quotations from Japanese scholars. He has served as a director of the Chinese Buddhist Association, abbots of Shandao Temple and Xuanzang Temple, Prajna Lecture Hall in Lingfeng, Singapore, Buddhist Academy in Vietnam, Dean of Taixu Buddhist College, and managing director of Cihang Middle School. The translation of his works is included in The Complete Works of the View of Truth.

Become a monk and go to school.

Li, a layman, was born in a poor peasant family in Guanjiazhuang, Yangzhou Town, Jiangsu Province in 19 17 (1 February1day). Father and mother Wu, there are four men and three women. He is the youngest. The second brother was eight years older than him, and was sent to Kannongji, Linze Town, Gaoyou to be a little novice monk, without a formal haircut. When Acting Master was twelve years old and his second brother was twenty years old, Master officially shaved his head and held a seven-day dharma meeting. Master Pei went to watch the ceremony with his parents. He asked Kannonji's master to shave his head, but the master refused for fear that his parents would not agree. He went to Futian Temple in the neighboring village by himself, where a Changshan monk was polite, shaved his hair and became a little monk. He studied in a private school for several years when he was a layman. After becoming a monk, the master refused to let him do chores and let him continue his studies. So when he was eighteen years old, Master took him to Fushou Law School in Baoying County to accept foot abstinence. After returning to the temple, Master handed over the position of the abbot to him. Master Pei doesn't want to stay in a small temple in the country, but he is bent on going out to seek the Dharma. He lied to master that he would go home to visit his parents and ask for leave. Go home for a walk, then go to Shanghai by boat and hang up the bill at the Jade Buddha Temple. Jade Buddha Temple is a temple to catch up with the classics, which is equal to "a place where five interests live together". Master Pei couldn't live any longer, so he went to Fazang Temple to sign the bill. The situation of Fazang Temple is not much better than that of Jade Buddha Temple. After studying for six months, he accumulated a little money and found that Guanzong Temple in Ningbo could study, so he bought a boat ticket to Ningbo, entered the study retreat of Guanzong Temple and received basic Buddhist education. 1935 spring, acting master is twenty years old.

Master Pepe was promoted to a senior member of the Buddhist Research Association with excellent results. The Buddhist Association only emphasizes lectures rather than writing. He stayed in the temple for more than a year and couldn't write a letter. /kloc-in the summer of 0/936, acting master went to Xiamen and entered Minnan Buddhist College. However, after studying in Fujian Academy for only half a year, the students of Zheng Yang Academy, who are also in Nanputuo Temple, don't get along well with the students of Fujian Academy, and sometimes there will be conflicts. So, in the early spring of 1937, they transferred to Jin Jue Temple in Huaiyin, Jiangsu, and entered the "Jin Jue Buddhist College", where they woke up and became masters.

A few days later, after the Japanese army repeatedly announced in North China, the government actively prepared for the war, called China youth to participate in military training, and monks also participated in ambulance service training, acting as the master to return to Gaoyou to become a monk and receive training. The Lugouqiao Incident broke out. After the Sino-Japanese War in Shanghai on August 13th, he fled to Hong Kong with five or six classmates, and stayed with Master Cihang, who was giving lectures in Wuxi, in Tommy Jing House of Master Youtan. They found that Master Taixu had set up a Sino-Tibetan Language Teaching College in Chongqing, with a strong faculty and great yearning. So at the beginning of 1939, the master performer and his classmates Miao Qin, Ju, Wen Hui, Bai Hui, etc. passed through Vietnam and transferred from Hekou to Kunming by Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. Master Shi Taixu was stationed in the provincial Buddhist Association in Xi Cuihu. They paid tribute to the master, who wrote a letter to Master Fazun, acting president of Hanyuan. These five people arrived in Chongqing by bus from Kunming in June and entered Beibei Sino-Tibetan Teaching and Research Institute.

Master Fa Fang, the academic director of Hanyuan, let them choose courses freely in the name of observers. So this is what Master Taixu meant. The master thinks that their level is good, they can choose courses freely and learn more. In this way, they can learn Bodhi Dao Ji's extensive theory according to Master Fazun, all the theories of giving up according to Master Fafang and Mahayana according to Master Yinshun.

teaching career

194 1 autumn, Master Taixu ordered Master Pepe to go to Fawang Temple in Hejiang County to organize the King Law School. Master Pepe is twenty-five years old. He is responsible for running a school seriously and is well received. 1945 After War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory, in 35 years in Tomb-Sweeping Day, Master Pepe, Master Yinshun and Master Miaoqin traveled eastbound from the northwest highway, arrived in Kaifeng by train in Baoji, Shaanxi, and stopped at Temple of xi Tower, where they were received by Master Jingyan. Due to the fatigue of the journey, Master Yin Shun stayed in Temple Tower for illness, while Master Pei and Master Miaoqin went to Shanghai first. Master Taixu was stationed in the Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai, and the two of them went to the Jade Buddha Temple to salute the master. In this way, Yan Peier and Miao Qin arrived in Hangzhou. Wulin Buddhist College is located in Lingfeng Temple in Hangzhou, with more than 30 monks. After the class started, the master performer said "give up everything", the wonderful teacher taught Chinese, and the other two masters talked about Buddhism. Less than a semester after school started, Miao Qin exchanged letters and telegrams with his hometown in southern Fujian and asked him to go back and have a look. Master Miao went back to Fujian on leave, and Li Zu went to visit relatives. The Buddhist Academy is maintained by a master of performance and training. He wrote to Master Taixu and asked someone else to be the dean. Later, the master appointed master Hui Jue as the dean, and the burden on the trainer was lighter, so he still taught in the hospital.

/kloc-in the winter of 0/948, Master Yin Shun was invited by a monk of Xingyuan to set up Dajue lecture club in Nanputuo Temple, Xiamen, and sent a letter to invite Master Pei and Master Xu Ming to help, so Master Pei left Hangzhou for Xiamen to give lectures at Dajue lecture club. The civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party spread to southern Fujian, and the workshop closed. Master Yan Pei and Master Ren Jun arrived in Hongkong first, followed by Master Yin Shun and Master Xu Ming. When this group of people first arrived in Hong Kong, their residence was uncertain and they changed their addresses three times. Finally, they stayed with Yin Shun's mentor in the clubhouse of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association in Wan Chai. Master Pei and Master Xu Ming proofread the master book for the Taixu Master Book Publishing Committee. After living in Hong Kong for three years, I proofread the 64-volume Encyclopedia of Master Taixu to the 26th volume. 1952 At the beginning of the year, Li Zikuan, a layman from Taiwan Province Province, sent a letter to Master Yan Pei, inviting him to host a seminar on Taiwanese Buddhism in Taiwan Province Province. In March, it was Taiwan Province Province's turn to win Taikoo.

195 1 autumn, the abbot of Lingyin Temple in Qingcaohu, Hsinchu invited Master Daxing to come to Taiwan Province to hold a Buddhist workshop. More than 40 members attended the seminar. Master Da Xing came to Taiwan Province Province on 1949. 1in the winter of 995, he suffered from hypertension and was recuperated in Xiangshan, Hsinchu. The following year, at the invitation of the Supreme Master, he presided over the seminar as a patient. After the stroke caused by hypertension, the seminar came to a standstill without leadership. So I thought Master Pei was the most suitable successor, so I invited Master Pei to Taiwan Province.

The workshop is a coeducational class with more than 20 girls and only a dozen boys. Acting masters are too young (36 years old) to lead women, so it is suggested that men and women be divided into classes. Later, the girls moved to Yuanguang Buddhist College in Zhongli, where they trained masters to lead the men in Lingyin Temple. He mingled with monks, and besides imparting knowledge and instilling Buddhism, he also paid special attention to the cultivation of virtue, which made the seminar famous. 19561February, graduated for the first time 12 monks, including Sanzang, Xiuyan and Miao Tong. Later, they were all Buddhist generals.

1957, Yin Shun, a tutor, founded the Women's Buddhist College in Yitong Temple in Hsinchu, with Yin Gong as the president and Yan Pei as the vice president. In September, Master Pei became the abbot of Shandao Temple after Yin Shun. In order to take care of the temple affairs, I didn't undertake the actual responsibility of the Buddhist College except after class. 1April, 958, the acting master was invited to go to Honghua in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and other places. After more than three months, I still teach after returning to China. 1In August, 996, the abbot of Shandao Temple resigned after three years in office. /kloc-I went abroad to Honghua in February, and my teaching career as a missionary came to an end temporarily. Although Taixu Buddhist College was established in Huiri Lecture Hall in Taipei and Chinese Buddhist College was established in Lingquan Temple in Meishan, Keelung, the acting deans were all nominal deans. In fact, the acting masters are all in Sin Chew, and the two deans are only nominal and do not assume actual responsibility.

Be the host

Master Pei served as the abbot for many times in his life. The first time he served as the abbot was in 1957, when he became the abbot of Shandao Temple, the first temple in Taipei. Mentor Yin Shunyuan was the abbot of Shandao Temple. Due to the constant personnel disputes in the temple, Yin Gongyi resigned, and the National Protection Conference decided to invite Master Yan Pei to succeed him. Master Yan Pei is surrounded by human feelings and cannot refuse. /kloc-0 was promoted to Jinshan in September, 957. However, the prison in the temple is in power and the personnel are still unstable. Master Pei is a scholar and tired of personnel struggle. He endured everything, obeyed his fate, barely served for three years and resolutely resigned. The enthusiastic Buddhist monks of the Dharma Protection Association repeatedly retained them. Zhao Yiwu, an 80-year-old Buddhist, even bowed his head and begged him to resign, and the abbot was succeeded by Master Muru. At the end of 1966, Yan Fu Jingshe lived in Caoqinghu, Hsinchu, and promoted the acting master as the abbot, and went to Jinshan in April of the following year. The training master is in Singapore, and the abbot is only nominal, and the affairs are represented by Master Chang Jue. His term of office expired on April 3, 197 1, and he was succeeded by Master Hai Yin, the abbot of Renhuiri Lecture Hall. 1968, Master I.M. Pei returned to Taipei from Singapore for a health check-up at Veterans General Hospital. The elder monk of the management committee of Xuanzang Temple in Sun Moon Lake handed the letter of appointment of the abbot of Xuanzang Temple to Master Pei, and the elder monk Li Zikuan repeatedly advised him to drive. He agreed to be the abbot of Xuanzang Temple when human feelings could not be shirked. 1March, 968, more than 3,000 people attended the ceremony to congratulate the temple in Jinshan, which was unprecedented. However, his legal affairs in Singapore cannot be left behind. In fact, the affairs of Xuanzang Temple are in the charge of the holy sound mage in the prison. After three years in office, he resolutely resigned and recommended Master Dao An to succeed him.

Later, in name, he also served as the abbot of the Vietnam Miao Fa Exquisite Institute, but in fact it was only in name. Kannonji in the United States, Xinyuan Temple in the Philippines, and Huazang Temple all invited Master Pei as abbot, but they all declined politely. 19991In late February, the abbot of Pujue Temple in Guangming Mountain, Singapore, expressed silence. He became the abbot at the invitation of Pujue Temple Trust. 199 1 On May 9th, 2008, the Golden Mountain Grand Ceremony was held, with more than 8,000 people attending. The scene is grand and unprecedented. Seventy-five years old should be the retirement age to play this role, but in order to protect Buddhism, I dare not get tired.

Nan Tian hong Hua

Master Pepe first went abroad in 1957. At the invitation of Buddhist Ma Ziliang, chairman of the Longhua Buddhist Association in Thailand, the abbot commemorated the third anniversary of the Taixu Master Sheridan and gave a lecture to his followers. Because of this, he has an indissoluble bond with Buddhism in Southeast Asia. He arrived in Bangkok in early May and was warmly welcomed by Longhua Buddhist College, China Buddhist Research Association, Guanghua Buddhist College and Lianhua Buddhist College. He gave 30 lectures in the Great Compassion Lecture Hall of Longhua Buddhist Association in Bangkok, which was translated into Chaozhou dialect by Chen Muchan. Because most of the bridges in Thailand are in chaozhou people, Guangdong. Master Pepe preached Dharma in Thailand, which was known by Vietnamese Master Chen Chao and Cambodian Master Fa Liang. Please ask him to visit Vietnam and Cambodia after finishing his promotion activities in Thailand. Master Yan Pei did not expect to go to three countries in advance, but was overwhelmed by each other's enthusiasm. 1June 7, 957, flew to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and taught the feelings of the eight great men at Zhengjue Temple, and gave lectures at Li Anlin Temple, Guan Hui Temple and Lianguang Jingshe Temple. Stay in Phnom Penh for more than ten days, and then arrive in Saigon, Vietnam in late June. I stayed in Vietnam for one and a half months, gave a lecture on "Eight Awakening Classics" in Buddhist temples, then went to Hue, the ancient capital of Vietnam, and gave four lectures at Ciyun Temple, Zhao Guang Guild Hall, Hue University and Hue Radio Station, and then went to Nha Trang and Da Le. In early August, I flew from Saigon to Hong Kong. At the request of all parties, he gave a speech at Zhengjue Lotus Society, China Buddhist Library, Baojue School Auditorium and Buddhist Lecture Hall, and then returned to Taipei.

1In August, 996, Master Yan Pei surrendered to the abbot of Shandao Temple and flew over Hong Kong in1February at the invitation of the Vietnamese overseas Chinese delegation. 196 1 On New Year's Day, he presided over the installation ceremony of the Buddha statue for the wonderful house on the levee. In Jionji, he talked about "popular goods" in the Wanfo Temple, in Nanputuo, Fengshan Temple in Saigon, Yin Guang Temple and Juehua Jingshe on the levee, and went to Dagang and Hoi An for nearly four months. In late April, it was transferred to Yongzhen, the capital of Laos. He taught Dharma in Laos for a week, and then moved to Thailand to teach Dharma in various Buddhist temples. It lasted for one month and flew to Penang, Malaysia in late May. Monks in Penang, such as Zhu Mo, Bendao, Guangyu, Guangyi, Mingde, Longhui, Wise Monk and Longgen, are welcomed at the airport. I visited Penang for two weeks, then went to Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and finally to Singapore. In the lion city, I was greeted by the elders in the mountains, and visited the mountains and Buddhist groups again to share the prosperity with fate. I didn't return to Taipei until late July.

1962 1 1 month, Master Pei went to Vietnam to preach Dharma for the third time. Believers in Saigon want him to stay in Vietnam and donate land. He thought about it, accepted it, and planned to build prajna temple. However, in 1963, the 10th anniversary of Bodhisattva Cihang, a three-day Dharma Meeting was held in Bodhi Lan Ruo, Singapore, and Master Yan Pei was invited to preside over it, which was believed to be true. Master Pei flew from Vietnam to Singapore in May. After the meeting, he talked with elders Guangqia and Daming about the plan to build a temple in Vietnam. Two elders told him that Vietnam has been in war for years and the situation is unstable. If you want to build a temple, you might as well find a piece of land in Singapore to build it.

This matter is known to Buddhists Lin Dajian, the trustee of Lingfeng Bodhi College (after returning and becoming a monk). I want to ask Master Pei to be the trustee of Bodhi College and let the college be managed by Master Pei as the Dojo for his missionary work. Later, the situation in Vietnam became more and more severe. Master Pei gave up the plan to build a temple in Vietnam, accepted the management task of Lingfeng Bodhi College, and invited Master Long Gen to join as the trustee. Due to disrepair, the hospital was rebuilt in 1967 and renamed Lingfeng Prajna Lecture Hall. The reconstruction was completed at the end of 1968, and a ceremony was held on 1 month 12 to complete the reconstruction and release the statue. Taiwan Province Yinshun tutor was invited to preside over the promotion meeting. More than 2000 guests from all walks of life came to congratulate, and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Mei Shouchuan also made a special trip to attend, which was unprecedented. Since then, Mr. Pei has been in the lecture hall for more than ten years.

From 1962 to 198 1 year, Master Pepe visited the United States, Canada and the Philippines many times. 1979, Master Pepe left Singapore to give lectures in the United States because he had been in Singapore for many years, but his nationality was not approved, so he asked Master Long Gen to take charge of the Prajna Lecture Hall and handed it over on 1 1 20th. After handing over the Prajna Lecture Hall, there were many rumors from outside. It was rumored in Hong Kong that he had been deported by the Singapore government. In order to clarify the rumors, Master Pei stayed in Singapore, stayed in the Singapore Women's Buddhist College, and continued to give lectures and spread Buddhism.

1In March, 1998, the newly-built Fukenji in Cebu, Philippines was completed. The abbot, Master Weici, asked Master Pei to preside over the installation ceremony of the Buddha statue. Master I.M. Pei went to the Philippines, flew directly from Manila to new york in late March, gave lectures at Daozhen Temple and University Temple, and returned to Singapore in June. 198 1 year, with the assistance of Master Hong and Master Chang Kai, the Singaporean government approved the nationality of the master trainer. At the same time, Master Yan Pei bought 73,000 feet of land in Bangor, and asked the architect to draw drawings and apply for construction. In the spring of 1982, the government approved the construction of pigeon house and named it fuhui lecture hall. Fuhui Lecture Hall was named to commemorate Yanfu Jingshe and Huiri Lecture Hall founded by Yin Shun's mentor in Taiwan Province.

Fuhui Lecture Hall has a lecture hall that can accommodate thousands of people. On both sides of the second floor are the library, conference hall and office. There is a Cienlin nursing home in the backyard, which can accommodate 120 elderly people. In addition, there is Cienlin Child Care Center. The project started in the spring of 1982 and was completed in 1985. 1March 1986 16, the opening ceremony was presided over by Wang Dingchang, the second deputy prime minister of the Singaporean government. Government officials, elders from various mountains and many Buddhist believers attended the grand event, and elders from the United States, Taiwan Province Province and the Philippines also sent delegations to attend.

Fuhui Lecture Hall is a Buddhist Dojo and the venue of the Buddhist Welfare Association in Singapore. Welfare Association is a social welfare organization founded by Master Yan Pei in 198 1. At first, it distributed relief money and materials to the poor and helpless elderly and unfortunate families every month, and also visited hospitals, homes for the disabled and orphanages for relief. After the completion of Fuhui Lecture Hall, with the promotion of master Yan Kuan, a senior performer, Ci 'en Lynn Nursing Home and Ci 'en Children's Development Center with multiple departments were established successively, which can accommodate more than 100 people. Later, a kidney dialysis center and a drug rehabilitation center with modern equipment were established, and the work of the Buddhist Welfare Society, a large cultural center, was also developing day by day.

Because of his contribution to social welfare, the actor was praised by the public and affirmed by the government. 1986 and 1992, the President of the Republic of Singapore awarded the Medal of Public Service twice and was appointed as the Buddhist representative of the Religious Harmony Council of Singapore.

Playing the old man, learning from the scriptures deeply, and knowing Sanzang's Confucian classics and theories like the back of his hand, there is nothing wrong with being called Sanzang's master. Every time there is a Buddhist prayer meeting, most of them are hired as Buddhist monks, and the number of times is too great to elaborate. He wrote all his life, and collected 34 volumes of The Complete Works of Truth and the sequel of Truth and Views 12, with 8 million words.

Master Pepe was born in an honest and frank family and was not good at rhetoric, so he became a stupid monk. However, the lecture is eloquent and eloquent, and the listeners will benefit a lot. Yan Lao died on 1996 1 1 month 10 at the age of 80.
