When does compulsory education in senior high school begin?
At present, China has not implemented compulsory education in senior high schools. At present, compulsory education in senior high schools is only tried out in some areas, and it has been implemented for 12 years.

On March 20 17, during the National People's Congress, there was a heated discussion on the inclusion of senior high school compulsory education in the category of 12 year compulsory education. However, there are different opinions. Some people think that the conditions are not mature and the country does not have the conditions to implement 12-year compulsory education. Others believe that China's basic conditions are met. Therefore, the proposal on the implementation of compulsory education in senior high schools is still being further demonstrated.

The cities that implement compulsory education in senior high school are Wuqi County of Shaanxi Province, Zhuhai City of Guangdong Province, Qian 'an City of Hebei Province, Dexing City of Jiangxi Province, Mawei District, Fuzhou City of Fujian Province, Jishou City of Hunan Province, Nanjing City of Jiangsu Province, Jinjiang City of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Zhangzhou Development Zone, Shenzhen City of Guangdong Province, Xingshan County of Hubei Province, Liuzhou District of Qinghai Province, and ethnic minority areas of Sichuan Province.

The current compulsory education in China is nine-year compulsory education and twelve-year compulsory education in parallel. Nine-year compulsory education is implemented in most areas, and only a few areas implement 12-year compulsory education. The nine-year compulsory education system is a compulsory education for all school-age children and adolescents and a public welfare undertaking that the state must guarantee.
