In order to better promote the development of English teaching, Xi 'an Primary School has undertaken the national key scientific research project-English immersion bilingual experiment since September 1998, which is a cooperative project of China, the United States and Canada. That is, this experiment requires teachers to always face students in English and teach English, music, art, synthesis, thinking, science, physical education and other subjects in English. Create a pure English learning environment for students without Chinese as an intermediary, immerse students in the English environment, thus comprehensively cultivate students' ability to communicate and think in English, and form our English teaching system and characteristics.
Xi 'an Primary School attaches great importance to English immersion experiment and has taken various measures to improve English teaching level since 1986. 1. Various hardware devices have been added one after another, such as tape recorders, cameras, voice classrooms, computer rooms, laptops, etc. 2. Provide learning opportunities for experimental teachers, and send more than 100 person-times to participate in various training, counseling and teaching exchanges in national, provincial, municipal, district and foreign schools, and strive to improve the professional ability of English teachers. Xi 'an Primary School requires students who take part in the experiment to have a simple English foundation before entering school, and has set up several subjects to carry out the experiment according to the actual situation. At present, the subjects offered in our school are: English, English music, English art, pronunciation, reading, synthesis, thinking and so on. Each class has six classes a week, forming a unique English teaching system and characteristics. The total number of experimental classes has increased from the initial 1 class to 26 now.
At present, the English textbooks selected by the school are: New Century Primary School English 1-2 grades, and People's Education Edition English grades 3-6. English immersion experimental textbooks include immersion series textbooks independently developed by the school, English art, English music, phonetics, and immersion English reading series provided by immersion research group.
Xi 'an Primary School has continuously deepened classroom reform, established an English classroom teaching mode based on activity classes, and optimized acquisition in the form of games, competitions, songs, stories and situational performances to stimulate and cultivate students' interest in learning English and improve efficiency.
