Before coming to Huaping Girls' Middle School, some children were prepared to get married by their families: "He is a girl, and it is used to exchange bride price"; Some are herding sheep in the mountains and have never seen the outside world. Without this school, these girls in mountainous areas will never get out of the "curse" of poverty.
Now, these children have entered Zhejiang University, Xiamen University, Sichuan University and Wuhan University from the depths of the mountains, and become doctors, policemen, lawyers, graduate students ... and teachers like Zhang Guimei.
Zhang Guimei believes: "A literate and responsible mother is an important factor to block the intergenerational transmission of poverty."
In the action of tackling poverty, the CPC Central Committee clearly put forward: "It is an important task for poverty alleviation and development to let children in poverty-stricken areas receive good education, and it is also an important way to block the intergenerational transmission of poverty."
I was born in a national poverty-stricken county. When I was at school, most of my classmates were children from rural areas around the town. Like the girls in Huaping Girls' Middle School, they are all children in the depths of the mountains. They have never been out of the mountains except for school.
Unfortunately, my classmates are not as lucky as the girls in Huaping Girls' Middle School. They didn't meet Zhang Guimei. Many students dropped out of school and went home after graduating from junior high school. Boys go home to farm and raise cattle, increase their labor force at home, or go out to work to subsidize their families. Girls go home, get married and have children, and live like this all their lives.
Only a few students are admitted to high schools and universities. I often come into contact with those students who went to college later, dropped out of school and went home, and have lost contact information.
One of them is a female classmate, and she is very impressed. She also came out of the countryside, went to graduate school step by step and found a job in a state-owned enterprise in a second-tier city. With a down-to-earth spirit, he has now become a small leader of the unit. She bought a house and a car in the city by her own efforts, and also helped her parents build a house in their hometown and her brother buy a house in the city. She changed her own destiny by her own efforts, and also changed the fate of her family.
Every time we meet, we often feel that a village girl who has come out of the countryside is now more and more like a fashionable young woman in a big city. I often think that if she doesn't have a degree, she may get married and have children like other students after graduating from junior high school. What about her descendants? How will it end?
This is probably the meaning of education for girls at the bottom.
