Xiangfang District has a long history and is the cradle of Harbin. As early as the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, because Laoting people in Hebei Province opened a thread incense workshop here, it was named Xiangfang. 1998, the Middle East Railway set up a railway station in Xiangfang, named Harbin Post. With the first whistle of the Middle East Railway, Xiangfang District began to move from Harbin to the world.
The western part of Xiangfang District is flat, and the eastern and southeastern parts are hilly and low-lying areas. The soil layer is deep, mostly composed of clay and sand. Geomorphology is mainly divided into three types: river terrace, diluvial platform and flood plain.
River terraces belong to a part of Songhua River basin, which are irregularly distributed in strips. Alluvial platforms are distributed in Xiangyang Lane, Jinjia, Changlin, Cao Shi, Dongsheng, Dongxing, Dongping, Xiangyang Village and Dongfanghong Farm, and alluvial platforms are mostly shallow depressions formed by water erosion.
Flooded areas are distributed in Moli and Riverside Villages of Happiness Town, and become Xincheng, Qufang, Huanghe, Jia Wei and Hongxian Villages of Gaozi Town, and Dongping, Xiangyang and Yongsheng Villages of Xiangyang Township. The altitude is between120.8m and198.3m..
