A: Dewey discussed the essence of education from many angles and aspects in his own educational theory. Finally, three important arguments are put forward to summarize the essence of education, namely, "education is growth", "education is life" and "education is the continuous transformation of experience". (1) "Education is growth", that is, the essence of education is to promote children's instinctive growth. He pointed out that children's instinctive growth always develops in the process of life, or that life is the social expression of growth.

(2) Dewey thinks: "You can't live without education. So we can say that education is life. " In his view, the best education is "learning from life", and school education should focus on the existing life situation.

(3) "Education is the constant transformation of experience". Dewey believes that since experience is the foundation of the world, education is also a process of experiencing everything and gaining all kinds of direct experience through children's active activities. In the process of education, the main thing is not to teach children the existing scientific knowledge, but to let children gain their own experience in activities. This has two meanings: one is to increase children's experience through education, and the other is to improve children's ability to guide the later experience process through education.
