Counsellor: the title of diplomat. Its diplomatic status is second only to that of ambassadors and ministers.
The counselor's main task is to assist the director of the embassy. When the director of the embassy is absent for some reason, the political counselor, as the chief librarian, usually presides over library affairs temporarily. In addition to political counsellors, some embassies also have business counselor, economic counsellors, agricultural counsellors, scientific counsellors, educational counsellors and cultural counsellors, who are sent by the relevant departments of the sending countries.
