1、SCI

The scientific citation index is a periodical literature retrieval tool put into use in 1960 in institute for scientific information, USA, and it is also one of the most famous retrieval publications. The contents of the periodicals mainly involve basic scientific research fields such as mathematics, science, culture, agriculture, forestry, medicine and biology, and the selected publications come from more than 40 countries.

2、SSCI

SCI's companion, Social Science Citation Index, was also founded by institute for scientific information. It is a large-scale retrieval tool, which can be used to analyze the number of social science papers in different countries and regions. The biggest difference is that SCI is partial to science, while SSCI is partial to liberal arts, focusing on humanities and social sciences.

3、CSSCI

Chinese social science citation index is called "Chinese social science citation index" in English, abbreviated as CSSCI. The database developed by China Social Science Research and Evaluation Center of Nanjing University is used to retrieve the essays and literature citations in the field of social sciences in China, which is a landmark project in the field of humanities and social sciences evaluation in China.

Taking the news and publication volume of Encyclopedia of China as the representative, the periodicals are divided into four categories:
