There are many educational ideas in Europe and America in the 20th century. Why are there so many ideas? The gradual decline of the progressive education movement in the early 20th century is partly the reason. People find that the quality of education is not high, so various educational thoughts rise. Some ideas are against progressivism.
1. Education should aim at transforming society.
Pay attention to individuals → pay attention to society.
2. Education should cultivate the spirit of social consistency → commonality.
3. Education should be guided by "behavioral science"
Understanding people's learning through explicit behavior
Education should be centered on social problems.
(I didn't say anything about teaching systematic knowledge)
5. The main duties of teachers are democracy and persuasion.
? Compared with personal progressive education, reformism has more connections with society. Its name, reformist transformation, is taken from social transformation. This is consistent with the democratic sociality mentioned in Dewey's pragmatism. Reformism is also a branch of pragmatic education.
