Jiuhuashan River is influenced by structural or lithologic factors, and there are occasional intermountain basins at the source of the river. The former, such as Jiuhua Basin, is located in the Zhonglongshan-Jiuhuajie fault zone, and is also the contact zone between Indosinian granodiorite and Yanshanian granite, which was formed by the long-term action of flowing water. The latter, such as the old resident basin, is located in the southeast of Fengfeng and Tiantai Mountain. Because of its small rising range and relatively low terrain, it is formed by the erosion and retreat of hillside and the scouring of running water. It is one of the sources of Huangshi Creek.
