At present, the classroom teaching of English in vocational high schools in China still adopts the teaching method of full-house irrigation. Practice shows that the students' ability to use English knowledge is very weak and the teaching effect is not ideal. Therefore, it is necessary to reform the traditional English teaching methods and find a way of English teaching that suits the characteristics of vocational high school students. According to the present situation of English teaching and learning of vocational high school students, this paper discusses the English teaching way suitable for vocational high school students based on student-oriented education.
1 the connotation and characteristics of student-oriented education
1. 1 the connotation of student-oriented education
"Student-oriented education" refers to "education that is truly student-oriented and designed for students' learning". Its philosophy is: all for students, highly respect students, and fully rely on students. In teaching organization, student-oriented education is to encourage students to learn first, teach with learning, teach with less, learn with more, and teach without distinction under the guidance of teachers.
1.2 Characteristics of student-oriented education
1) is student-centered. The traditional English teaching is for students to listen, the teacher said. Student-based education is different. Basically, students say and teachers listen. Of course, teachers don't just listen, but guide students to talk, consciously guide students to think and cultivate students' ability to analyze and solve problems independently.
2) Cooperative learning is the implementation mechanism. Student-oriented education emphasizes students' autonomous learning and teachers' guidance. If teachers' guiding role and students' autonomous learning role can be effectively brought into play, cooperation or group learning among students is inevitable. Through this kind of group study, we can create an atmosphere and inspire each other on the premise of independent thinking.
3) Take inquiry as the learning method. Because student-oriented education emphasizes student-centered learning and guidance between teachers and students, inquiry is the basic learning method of student-oriented education. Through the continuous and in-depth guidance of teachers, students can gradually discover and solve problems, thus learning knowledge and developing potential.
2 Vocational English Teaching Status
2. 1 Teaching methods and means are backward
Most of the teaching is still classroom-centered, book-centered, and teacher-centered. The method is still that the teacher speaks on the podium and the students listen respectfully. This backward teaching method can only produce a teaching situation and effect that is full of irrigation, ignores students' personality, lacks practical experience and consolidation, and lacks teacher-student interaction. In addition, the teaching method is backward, and most English teaching in higher vocational colleges adopts the mode of "teacher-blackboard-textbook-tape recorder". Foreign language teaching lags behind the development of modern educational technology and lacks a good hardware environment for English teaching. The present situation of English teaching and this boring training method make students have resistance to English classes and lose interest in learning English.
2.2 The teaching content is boring
Influenced by exam-oriented education, teachers' teaching contents are mainly vocabulary, grammar and translation. Simply paying attention to the analysis and grammar explanation of words, words and sentences in textbooks will inevitably lead to ignoring the cultivation of students' listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities and the habit of thinking in English. Teachers generally lack the ability to discover new materials that reflect real life and easily arouse students' interest in teaching, and also lack the ability to engage in teaching by using various English teaching methods. There are some phenomena in teaching, such as emphasizing vocabulary quality over quantity, emphasizing intensive reading over extensive reading, emphasizing knowledge transfer over skill training, and emphasizing exam-oriented teaching over quality training.
2.3 Vocational students generally have a poor English foundation and have not developed good study habits.
In vocational high schools, most students have poor English foundation and have difficulty in reading and writing words; A small number of students have a good foundation, but they are not interested in English learning, resulting in poor actual English performance; Very few students have a good English foundation, but due to the influence of the whole English learning environment, their English reading and writing ability has improved slowly [1]. Most students in higher vocational colleges are lazy, don't pay attention to class, often slip away, and some don't even have their learning tools ready, and they don't bring books to class, let alone study.
3 English teaching strategies based on student-oriented education
3. 1 student-centered, improve the enthusiasm of students to participate in teaching.
No matter what kind of education, students should be the center of classroom teaching activities, and English teaching in vocational high schools is no exception. Since students are the center of classroom teaching, it means that students should actively participate in classroom teaching instead of passively accepting it. The teaching effect should be mainly reflected in how much subjectivity students have achieved and how much new knowledge they have accepted and understood on this basis. To fully realize students' subjectivity, we must give full play to the leading role of teachers and guide students through the setting of course content and the application of teaching methods. Teachers must use vivid teaching situations to stimulate students' desire for knowledge, interest in learning and enthusiasm for learning, and regard learning as their own needs in order to actively participate in learning classroom teaching activities. In addition, German educator Steward said: "The art of teaching is not to impart skills, but to inspire, awaken and inspire." Motivation is to maintain and enhance students' enthusiasm for learning in a certain way, so that students can maintain a positive attitude and curiosity in the whole learning process and become the masters of the classroom, thus improving the efficiency of classroom teaching.
3.2 Enrich the teaching content
Teaching content determines teaching methods and students' interest in learning. Therefore, the importance of teaching content in classroom teaching is self-evident. It is true that it is impossible to fundamentally change the teaching content under the present exam-oriented education in China, but it does not prevent appropriate adaptation. First of all, students can choose the teaching materials they are interested in, which can arouse their interest. Students' interest in the content will inevitably lead them to explore the content, and learning English knowledge such as words and grammar through this interest will make them more impressed. Secondly, case teaching can be used. Case teaching is a common teaching method in economics and law, which can guide students to think well and improve their enthusiasm for participation. Attention should be paid to the authenticity of cases in English classroom teaching in vocational high schools. Case materials should reflect the actual work of English education, teaching, research and management. The case scenario should be complete, and the teaching case should write the background of the incident, that is, write the specific time, place and conditions, such as the basic situation of teachers and students, teaching conditions and teaching environment. Of course, in order to play its role, case teaching method must be fully guided by teachers in students' discussions and encourage students to think and summarize the knowledge points they have learned from cases at ordinary times.
3.3 Teaching students in accordance with their aptitude
The English foundation of vocational high school students is generally poor, but some students have a good or solid English foundation after a period of hard work. For students with good foundation and poor foundation, the amount of knowledge they have is different, of course, the teaching content is different and the teaching progress is different. Therefore, hierarchical teaching can be adopted. Students in a class are divided into two groups according to their English scores, namely, the fast group and the slow group, and compound teaching is carried out. Sometimes Group A and Group B are combined into one according to the content of the class [2]. For the students in the slow group, the teaching content and goal are mainly to promote them to lay a good foundation, and individual counseling should be given to these students so that they can master the basic knowledge as soon as possible. In the learning process, if the students in the slow group meet the standards of the fast group after testing, they should be arranged in the fast group as soon as possible.
3.4 Diversification of teaching methods and means
Traditional English classroom teaching is still a teacher's book, a piece of chalk and a blackboard. Of course, this boring teaching method can hardly arouse the interest of students who like novelty and novelty. To change this situation, we must explore a variety of teaching methods and means. For example, multimedia teaching means can be used, which is vivid and intuitive, can mobilize students' eyes, ears and brains, make them excited, create a scene that allows students to actively participate, and make students change passive learning into active learning; Situational teaching method can also be used to simulate the teaching content by setting the situation and using the characteristics of students' active learning; You can also use group games and mutual comments to guide students to understand the teaching content.
4 conclusion
In the English classroom teaching of vocational high school students, the concept of student-oriented education will definitely give full play to students' learning enthusiasm. However, because vocational high school students are oriented to vocational training after all, English learning is dispensable for them. Therefore, only when students fully realize the importance of learning English at present and in the future, and put their minds right and study hard, can they really play their role.
