2. Pay attention to moral education.
Theodore roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, famously said (1901-kloc-0/909) in the enrollment manual of this school: "Educating a person only intellectually but not morally is to cultivate a person who is harmful to society." The school emphasizes in the handbook that the fundamental purpose of moral education in schools is to "train officers who serve the country responsibly without seeking personal gain".
All students are required to take a core course of ethics, which is related to answering the following questions: What is good behavior? What kind of person is the best? What is really valuable? What principles should life follow?
3. Carry forward patriotism
Douglas macarthur 1903 graduated with honors from West Point Military Academy. 19 17 was the chief of staff of the 42nd Division (Rainbow Division) and went to France to participate in the First World War. 19 19 ~ 1922 served as the president of west point and carried out a series of reforms. 1945 was appointed supreme commander of the allied forces, and later became the military leader who occupied Japan. 1950 After the Korean War broke out in June, he became the commander-in-chief of the "United Nations Army". The Chinese and Korean armies cracked down on his arrogance, and he was dismissed in April of 195 1. 1962, MacArthur returned to his alma mater to accept the Searle Prize and delivered a famous speech with the theme of "Duty, Honor and Country", which was his last contribution to the concept of West Point Military Academy. Three English words became the school motto of West Point and were engraved on the school emblem.
South Carolina Military Academy is a local university with military tradition. 19 10 years later, the whole English name was "The Citadel, the military college of south Carolina", literally translated as "Fort, South Carolina Military Academy". In World War II (1939- 1945), all the students in grade 1944 were incorporated into the US military, 280 were killed in battle, and only two students were lucky enough to get diplomas.
4. Correct values
Fortress College advocates six core values: ① Profession; 2 responsibility; 3 honor; 4 morality; 5 discipline; More than 6 yuan.
A typical person who practices the core values of Fortress College is Ahlander D. Williams Jr.1982 65438+10/3. On October 3, a plane of Florida Airlines rushed to the 14 Street Bridge in Washington, DC, and then crashed in Potomac. Six people survived, including Williams. When the helicopter came to the rescue, he helped five other passengers climb the helicopter one after another, but he slipped into the glacier and died heroically. The movie Hero on the Potomac River, which describes the air crash, was broadcast on some TV stations in China. Students in this school organized Williams Club to improve their lives by participating in social services.
