Xining, formerly known as Tang Cheng, Xiping County, Shanzhou and Xiadu, is a prefecture-level city and provincial capital under the jurisdiction of Qinghai Province and an important central city in northwest China determined by the State Council.

By 2022 10, there are five districts and two counties in the city, with a total area of 7660 square kilometers. In 20021year, the resident population was 2,475,600, and the urban population/kloc-0 1.9639 million, with an urbanization rate of 79.33%.

Xining City is located in the northwest of China, in the east of Qinghai Province, and in the valley basin in the middle reaches of Huangshui River. It is the east gate of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and the only place where the South Road of the Ancient Silk Road and the Tang-Fan Ancient Road pass.

Since ancient times, it has been the traffic artery and military fortress in the northwest, and is known as the "lock key of the West Sea" and the throat of the sea. It is one of the high-altitude cities in the world, the political, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, transportation and communication center of Qinghai Province, the inland open city determined by the State Council, and the resident of Xining Joint Logistics Support Center of the Central Military Commission.

Xining has a long history and culture, unique natural resources and colorful folk customs. It is a bright pearl on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which means "peace in the west".

It has successively won the honorary titles of National Health City, Top 200 Charming Cities in China, Excellent Tourism City in China, Advanced Landscaping City in China, National Forest City and National Civilized City, and is a pilot city for the construction of "Waste-free City".
