Where does Shangri-La belong?
Shangri-La is located in the northwest of Yunnan Province, in the hinterland of Hengduan Mountains on the southeast edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, in the east of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and at the intersection of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet provinces. It is the hub of the ancient tea-horse road in Yunnan and Tibet. It is connected with Daocheng County and Muli County in the east of Sichuan Province, facing Yulong County, Weixi County and Deqin County in Lijiang City, Yunnan Province across the Jinsha River in the southeast, and adjacent to Derong County and Xiangcheng County in Sichuan Province in the northwest. The city's east-west span is 88km, and the north-south span is 218km, with a total area of11613km2, which is the highest in the province. Shangri-La is a minority area. Many ethnic groups live in harmony. There are 9 indigenous ethnic groups and 25 other ethnic groups, including Tibetan, Naxi, Han, Lisu, Yi, Bai, Miao, Hui and Pumi, living together, and many religions coexist and prosper together. Tibetan Buddhism, Catholicism, Christianity, Islam, Bonism, Dongba and other religions spread in China, and many religions and sects coexist. Shangri-La belongs to Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. In 2020, there will be 662 village (community) committees (including 57 village committees and 5 community neighborhood committees) in 4 towns and 7 townships, including Jiantang Town, Xiaozhongdian Town, Jinjiang Town, Hutiaoxia Town, Dongwang Township, Gezan Township, Nixi Township, Wujing Township, Shangjiang Township, Sanba Township and Luoji Township. Jiantang Town, the resident of the municipal government, is 3300 meters above sea level, which is not only the seat of Diqing Prefecture, but also the political, economic, cultural, educational, scientific and technological and information center of Shangri-La and even the whole state.
