Hunan University of Science and Technology started from Xiangbei Institute of Architecture on the eve of liberation, and was merged from Xiangtan Institute of Technology and Xiangtan Normal University in 2003. It is a university jointly established by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, a university jointly established by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and the former state administration of work safety, a key university supported by 100 universities in the central and western regions of China in the 13th Five-Year Plan, and a "first-class university in China" in Hunan Province.
The school covers an area of 3,004.67 mu, with a building area of116160,000 square meters, and a total of more than 6.4 million paper and electronic documents. There are 20 teaching colleges and continuing education colleges, international education colleges and Xiaoxiang College (independent colleges), and 98 undergraduate majors cover 1 1 disciplines.
