The concept of education industry
One of the main viewpoints is that the industrialization of education is to completely transplant the mechanism and rules of market economy into education, so that the market mechanism can play a fundamental role in the allocation of educational resources, and the role of the government lies in the macro-control of education. Accordingly, schools should be enterprises, and schools should be educational enterprises. They should aim at maximizing profits, operate independently and be responsible for their own profits and losses. According to this view, students not only have to bear all the education costs, but also the tuition fees charged by the school have a surplus after paying all the training costs. The opinion against the industrialization of education holds that education is an industry but should not be industrialized, and schools should not be commercialized. Although education is an industry and the market mechanism of industrial operation should be introduced, education is a quasi-public product with public welfare, and schools are non-profit organizations, which are different from enterprises aiming at maximizing profits. Therefore, education should not be industrialized, that is, it should not be market-oriented.
