At the end of 1970s, under the guidance of the general policy of reform and opening-up, the art education circle in China began a new course of facing the world, the future and modernization.
1979 Professor Liao Naixiong, director of the Institute of Music of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, a famous China scholar, went to Germany to inspect music. He heard that Orff, the most famous contemporary composer, was still alive, so he tried his best to find Mr. Orff's phone number. At this time, 84-year-old Mr Orff was basically at home when he suddenly got a call from a China scholar. Later, Mrs Orff recalled: He couldn't imagine how the China native found this mobile phone, and he didn't expect that Mr Orff, who rarely saw customers, readily agreed to this sudden visit. This is a historic meeting. Mr Orff has a mysterious love for China culture in the Far East. They hit it off soon. Mr Orff was surprised by Professor Liao's erudition and profound understanding of himself and his works. He immediately presented his full set of music and acoustics to Professor Liao, including his five-volume School Education. Mr Orff also told Hou that his textbooks have been translated and used by more than 50 countries all over the world, and published in 16 languages, but what he regrets most is that China, as an ancient oriental country, is still missing. Orff personally arranged for Professor Liao to visit Orff College. Professor Liao, with his acumen and wisdom, immediately realized the great vitality of this refreshing education system. Four professors returned to China on 1980. As a famous expert in the study of western music history in China, he focused on introducing and spreading Orff's music education system. Besides translation, he also personally compiled a batch of teaching materials, held teacher training courses and gave lectures all over the country according to Orff's educational principles ... In particular, he personally contacted outstanding German and Austrian Orff teachers to give lectures and train teachers in China. The introduction of Orff's music education system made China's music education get a higher starting point in the early stage of reform. Facing the best education system in the world, it greatly shortened the process of music education reform in China.
