Fenghuang town, Tianya Town and Yucai Town were abolished, and Tianya District was established. The former administrative areas of fenghuang town, Tianya Town and Yucai Town were Tianya District;

In September 2020, the list of the top 100 counties and cities in China was released in 2020, and Tianya District ranked 82nd.

On February 20 16 16, Tianya district was included in the list of counties (cities, districts) with basically balanced development of compulsory education in China in 20 15.
