The content of continuing education includes public demand subjects and professional subjects, and public demand subjects include basic knowledge such as laws and regulations, theoretical policies, professional ethics and technical information that professional and technical personnel should generally master.

The College of Continuing Education of Hunan Normal University is a special management department set up by the school to carry out after-service education, which integrates the teaching management and student management functions of adult education. The college was established in April 2000. The main teaching office is located in Zhanggongling Campus. The College of Continuing Education has 24 employees. At present, the internal institutions are: secretarial office, teaching management section, student status management section, student affairs section and modern distance education section. The College of Continuing Education has many forms of running schools, such as correspondence, part-time, full-time and modern distance education. Adult education has three levels: junior college, junior college and junior college. In 2006, the number of adult education enrollment majors was 62, including 43 undergraduate majors and junior college 19.

Adult academic education includes adult education, self-taught examination, "three links" education with the nature of self-taught examination and modern distance education. Adult academic education has always been the main type of continuing education in our school, which began in the late 1970s. At present, there are many forms of adult education in our school, such as full-time, correspondence and amateur, and there are more than 80 enrollment majors.

Self-taught examination is another major type of school in the College of Continuing Education of our school, including social self-taught classes and full-time self-taught classes. In recent years, full-time self-study classes have developed rapidly. At present, there are 58 self-taught majors in our school, and the number of students enrolled and the scope of enrollment majors are the first in the province.
