After graduation, he returned to the History Department of Xiangtan University to teach and study the modern history of China.

1988 lecturer, 1992 associate professor and 1995 professor. 1990, director of China Modern History Teaching and Research Section of Xiangtan University History Department; 1993, deputy director of history department; 1995 Director of History Department; 1996, the three departments of Chinese, history and philosophy merged into the first vice president; 1998 Up to now, he has served as director of graduate department and director of degree office. During the period of 1996, he served as a member and leader of the history discipline group of the evaluation committee for senior titles of college teachers in Hunan Province, a member of the evaluation group for senior titles of social science research in Hunan Province, and a member and deputy head of the literature and history group of the discipline evaluation group of Hunan Academic Degrees Committee. He is also a director of China Historical Society, vice president of Hunan Historical Society, vice president of Zeng Guofan Research Society of Hunan Province and director of Zeng Guofan Research Center of Xiangtan University.

He has been engaged in the study of China's modern history for a long time, and his main research directions are China's modern ideological history, cultural history, CPC history and regional studies. He has published Xiangjun Group and Hunan in the Late Qing Dynasty (China Social Sciences Press, 2002), Modern China and Modern Culture (China Social Sciences Press, 2003), An Introduction to Modern Culture in China (Hunan People's Publishing House, 2003) and Outline of the Development History of China's Socialist Thought (Guangxi People's Publishing House,19965438).

He has published more than 70 papers in modern history research and other publications. Cited more than 200 articles (times), China Renmin University reprinted newspapers 15, Xinhua Digest 2 articles, 1 copy; The article "Modern Huxiang Style of Study and Characteristics of Huxiang Talent Groups" was selected in Zhongnanhai History and Culture Lecture-Issues Discussed by Famous Scholars and Senior Officials of the Central Government (internal information, 2006).

In the past five years, he has undertaken projects funded by the National Publishing Fund 1, the National Social Science Fund 1, the Humanities and Social Sciences Fund of the Ministry of Education 1, and many provincial and ministerial projects.

In 2002, he was named the first outstanding young social science expert in Hunan Province. In 2004, he won the second prize of the seventh outstanding social science achievement in Hunan Province, the second prize of the outstanding social science project in Hunan Province in 2005 and the second prize of the eighth outstanding social science achievement in Hunan Province in 2006.
