1, development history

The preamble of the Charter of the United Nations, which was born in 1945, said: "We should practice tolerance and live in harmony with each other as good neighbors." The purpose of establishing International Tolerance Day by UNESCO is to popularize tolerance education and emphasize that people should live in harmony and peace in a pluralistic society. Due to the influence of globalization, a large number of immigrants and other factors, the world is facing many problems such as lack of tolerance for different cultures, inability to accommodate different behaviors, and inability to communicate with various cultures. How to stop hatred and strengthen understanding and harmonious coexistence among different nationalities, religions and cultures has become a serious global war. Therefore, at the initiative of UNESCO, the United Nations General Assembly decided to designate 1995 as the International Year for Tolerance. In that year, it was proposed that 165438+ 10/6 be designated as the International Day for Tolerance.

2. Purpose of establishment

The International Day for Tolerance has attracted the world's attention and made it realize that tolerance is a basic condition for peace, democracy and sustainable development. The world recognized this when it adopted the Millennium Declaration in 2000. Therefore, they believe that tolerance is one of the basic values that international relations must be based on in the 2 1 century.

Five years later, heads of state and government of various countries gathered at the United Nations Headquarters in new york on September 6-6, 2005, declaring that the protection of human rights is the central task of the United Nations, and there can be no security and development without human rights. In support of this declaration, countries also made a clear and unambiguous commitment to promote and protect human rights. They reaffirmed that tolerance is a common basic value and extremely important to international relations, and acknowledged the diversity of the world and that all cultures and civilizations have contributed to the richness of mankind. The world also emphasizes that sports can promote peace and development and help to create an atmosphere of tolerance and understanding, and encourages discussions in the General Assembly to formulate proposals for an action plan on sports and development.

3. Activity content

Tolerance is not simply "tolerating the behavior of others", but recognizing the rights and freedoms of others, embracing the ideals and cultures of all countries, and being responsible not only for yourself but also for others. In his speech on the International Day for Tolerance, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan pointed out that tolerance is a positive and correct attitude, which is based on understanding and respecting the freedom and rights of others. He advocates replacing indifference and contempt with care and blindness, ignorance and discrimination with understanding. When introducing Tolerance Day, UNESCO mentioned that building a tolerant and honest society is not achieved overnight, but requires time and the joint efforts of all sectors of society. Because prejudice and dissatisfaction mostly come from ignorance and fear, UNESCO calls on the whole society to popularize tolerance education and calls on different ethnic groups to understand each other's cultures, respect each other and live in harmony; At the same time, it is emphasized that tolerance education should start with children, and parents should pay special attention to the possible influence of their words and deeds on their children.

It is human nature to make mistakes. In order to get along well with others, we should be tolerant of each other and ourselves to make our life easier. The pursuit of life is a kind of happiness, not disturbed by troubles.
