1993, the department of education led the reform of the department of northeast normal university, 1994 established the school of educational science. Department is an entity running school and management institution. There are education colleges, education management colleges, psychology colleges, elementary education colleges and preschool education colleges, which mainly organize undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The Institute of International and Comparative Education of the Ministry of Education, the Institute of Rural Education, the Research Center of Basic Education Curriculum of Northeast Normal University, the Institute of Higher Education, the Research Center of Child Development, and the Laboratory of Cognitive and Brain Science will be merged into the Ministry of Education under the unified leadership of the Ministry of Education. National Basic Education Experimental Center, Teacher Education Research Institute, Teacher Development Research Institute (relying on the Training Department of Distance and Continuing Education College of Northeast Normal University), Kindergarten Director Training Center of Ministry of Education (to be determined), Northeast Education Management Cadre Training Center of Ministry of Education, Teacher Training Center of Northeast Normal University of Ministry of Education, Changchun Branch of National Network Training for College Teachers of Ministry of Education, National Continuing Education Research Center for Primary and Secondary School Teachers of Northeast Normal University, and the magazine "Training for Primary and Secondary School Teachers" have also been incorporated into the Ministry of Education, which is under unified leadership and coordination.

The principle of pedagogy in the Department of Education of Northeast Normal University is a national key discipline, the Institute of Rural Education is a key research base of humanities and social sciences in the Ministry of Education, and pedagogy is a post-doctoral research station approved by the Ministry of Personnel. There are five undergraduate majors in the department; 9 master's degree authorization points and 3 education master's degree authorization points; Pedagogy and psychology are national first-class doctoral programs, and there are 9 doctoral degree authorization points in the two disciplines.
