Brief Introduction of Modern Sculpture in China
Since the Revolution of 1911 in China (19 1 1), the sculpture art has further developed and made outstanding achievements in popularization and improvement. Since the 20th century, the traditional religious sculptures in China have been in decline. Although small folk sculptures are very prosperous, they have failed to become the mainstream. During the Revolution of 1911, young people went to Britain, America and Japan to study sculpture. From the May 4th Movement to the 1930s, more and more young artists went to Canada, France, Japan, Belgium and other countries to study sculpture. After returning to China, they held an exhibition of sculpture works, which promoted the development of easel sculpture in China. Most of them are engaged in art education and become pioneers of modern sculpture art in China.
