Jinshan District is a southwest suburb of Shanghai, located in Jinshan, south of the Yangtze River in China and upstream of Huangpu River. It borders Fengxian District in the east, Songjiang District and Qingpu District in the north, and Pinghu and Jiashan in Zhejiang Province in the west.

Jinshan was called Haiyan in ancient times, also known as Huzhe Lake, Kangcheng, Qian Jing, Zhucheng, Nautilus Island and Yun Jian. This used to be a famous salt-producing town in China.
